In a nip-and-tuck struggle that lasted until the final gun, the Altoona-Midway Jets came up on the short end of an exciting contest against Marmaton Valley Wildcats here Friday night.

Marmaton Valley got the only score of the second half in the final period, snapping 14-14 tie and lifting the Wildcats to a 22-14 victory in the 8-man II, District 1 battle.

The loss gives Altoona Midway a 1-6 mark on the season. The Jets are 1-3 in Three Rivers League play and 1-3 in district matchups.

With the victory, Marmaton Valley improves to 2-5. The Wildcats stand 2-2 in both league and district action.

MVHS stormed out to a 14-0 lead after one period of play. But the Jets showed they were not about to roll over. AMHS rallied for a pair of second quarter TDs to knot the game 14-all at halftime.

Neither team crossed the goal again until the Wildcats’ game-winner in the final quarter.

In other Three Rivers League 8-man games Friday, St. Paul defeated Chetopa 72-22 and Southern Coffey County blanked Colony-Crest 46-0. Oswego topped Cedar Vale-Dexter 22-16 in a non-league tilt.

Altoona-Midway closes out the home portion of its 2018 slate this Friday, hosting Colony-Crest High School. The Lancers are winless in seven outings this season. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
