ALTOONA-MIDWAY HIGH SCHOOL TRACK

HUMBOLDT – “True success is not measured against an opponent. It’s being the
best you can be.”
Using that standard, the Altoona-Midway High School track team is doing just fine,
thank you.
AMHS thinclads picked up two medals and two fourth-place finishes Thursday at
the Humboldt Invitational. But the most impressive statistic of the evening … an amazing
10 different Jets recorded personal records (PR) in various events.
“We are super proud of our athletes tonight,” noted Michelle Morales, who coaches
the AMHS track team along with Lane Huffman. “Most of them broke their Personal
Records at this meet, so that shows us that they are improving and making an effort to do
so.”
The Jets earning medals at the meet were seniors Alex Troutman and Josh Meigs.
Troutman fired the javelin 148 feet to place second, while Meigs covered 19 feet, one inch
in the long jump for a third-place finish. Both marks were personal bests.
“We are very proud of Josh and Alex for receiving medals in their field categories,”
Morales said.
Troutman and Meigs were also members of the Jets 4x100 relay unit that took fourth
place with a PR time of 50.06. Jackson Ashmore and Dalton Smith made up the other half
of that relay squad.
Also earning fourth place points for the Lady Jets with a PR was Abi Elsesser, who
crossed the finish line in the 400 meters in 1:11.49. Elsesser recorded another PR with a
14.4 time in the 100 meter dash, but did not place.
Dalton Smith earned a ninth-place finish in the 800 meter run with a PR of 2:31.24.
Other Jets who recorded personal records, despite not being able to place in the
respective events, included:
Mariah Stackhouse, 78-7 in the javelin;
Anna Beckwith, 12-5 in the long jump;

Jackson Ashmore, 12.3 in the 100 meters;
Jacob Meigs, 1:08.85 in the 400 meters;
Blaine Collins, 1:17.24 in the 400 meters;
Drew Miller, 1:19.47 in the 400 meters.
The only non-PR performance turned in by the Jet squad was the girls’ 4x100 relay
squad of Elsesser, Stackhouse, Heather Lane, and Beckwith, with a time of 58.98.
