YATES CENTER HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL

YATES CENTER – The Yates Center High School baseball team came up short in both ends of a doubleheader here Thursday, April 27, against the Uniontown Eagles.

Uniontown swept the twinbill by scores of 12-2 and 13-1.

The Wildcats were limited to just two hits in each contest. In the first game, Jayston Rice and Tristan Ballin each collected singles for YC. In the nightcap, William Stackhouse and Rice both reached first via singles.

In the opener, Yates Center trailed just 5-2 after four innings, but Uniontown plated four runs in the fifth and added another three in the sixth to pull away for the 12-2 win.

Rice and Emmett Brittain scored runs for the Wildcats, both coming in the bottom of the fourth inning.

In the nightcap, a six-run second inning put the Eagles ahead 7-0 and doomed realistic hopes for a split for the day. However, Yates Center hung tough, holding Uniontown to just one run over the next four frames.

The Wildcats were unable to generate any offense of their own, however, and still trailed 8-1 at that point. The Eagles put the game away by scoring five runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Rice scored the lone run for YCHS. Buckman and Snyder each pounded out two hits for Uniontown.
