WAVERLY – The Altoona-Midway High School volleyball team closed out its season here
Saturday, dropping an opening round match in the Class 1A, Division II Sub-state Volleyball
Tournament. The Lady Jets lost their postseason matchup with the host Waverly Bulldogs, falling 25-8, 25-13.

As she has done most of the season, Emmalynn Pupanek led the Jets, compiling 14 digs, 11
net attacks, three serves and four blocks. Summer Raymond also helped the AMHS cause with
17 sets and six serves.


The Lady Jets finished the season with a 1-23 overall record.
Waverly also won its semifinal match, rallying to defeat Marais Des Cygnes Valley in a thriller,
24-26, 28-26, 25-19. The Bulldogs run came to an end in the sub-state finals, however, as they
fell to top-seeded Lebo 25-13, 27-25.


Lebo (36-2) enters the Class 1A, Division II State Volleyball Tournament as the defending state
champion and this year’s No.1 seed. Pool play is slated for Friday, Oct. 27, at White Auditorium
in Emporia. Semifinals and finals will be held Saturday, Oct. 28.
