BUFFALO – It was senior night for the Altoona-Midway High School volleyball team here Tuesday at Milo Peterson Gymnasium.
The Lady Jet seniors were honored, and they – along with the rest of the squad – played well. The only thing better would have been an AMHS victory.
Unfortunately, the Central Heights Lady Vikings kept the Lady Jet seniors from tasting victory on their special night, as the visitors earned a hard-fought 25-17, 25-15, 25-13 triumph in the non-conference dual.
“The girls played with a lot of heart tonight,” said AMHS head coach Michelle Stackhouse. “We played very competitive volleyball. I couldn’t be more proud of them.”
It was the final home appearance for Lady Jet seniors Emmalynn Pupanek, Autumn Raymond, and Jyl Davis.
“It was Senior Night, and our three seniors – Emmalynn, Autumn, and Jyl – put it all on the court tonight,” Stackhouse said. “And, their teammates had their backs as well.”
Pupanek finished the night with nine good serves, two aces, 55 passes, four sets, two tips, and four blocks.
Raymond also closed out her home career with nine good serves, including one ace, and compiled 51 passes, one kill, and 15 sets.
Meanwhile, junior Chantal Morales recorded seven serves, 34 passes and one kill, while freshman Sandra Morales racked up eight serves, one ace, 34 passes, two kills, 14 sets, three tips and three blocks.
Altoona-Midway ends regular-season play with a 5-24 overall record. The Lady Jets will participate in the Class 1A-Division II Regional Tournament later this month. Pairings for Class 1A post-season play have not yet been announced.
