ARGONIA – The Altoona-Midway High School volleyball team wrapped up the 2024 season by participating in the Class 1A-Division II Regional 2 Tournament here Tuesday.

The Lady Jets dropped both of their matches in regional play. Argonia took the measure of AMHS 25-2, 25-6 in the opening match, and Hartford followed up with a 25-13, 25-17 triumph.

Argonia entered as the No.3 seed in the region with a 33-6 record, while Hartford (12-19) was the sixth seed.

“We only had seven players suited out for our regional games tonight,” said AMHS coach Michelle Stackhouse. We were missing two starters, but Peyton Drake and Sophia Sweigart came in off the bench and had some great plays.

“Being short two starters could have been tough on us, but all of the girls played with heart tonight – as they have all season long.”

Sandra Morales finished the day with nine good serves, with three of them aces, to go along with five kills, eight tips, two blocks, 45 passes, and 18 sets.

Emmalynn Pupanek notched six good serves, three blocks, one kill and 47 passes.

Autumn Raymond collected seven kills and four tips and six serves while adding 13 sets and 45 passes.

Jyl Davis and Peyton Drake fired six good serves apiece. Davis added six passes while Drake tallied 19 passes and a kill.

Sophia Sweigart also chipped in with 11 good passes.

Altoona-Midway ends the 2024 season with a 5-26 overall record.

“I’m very proud of this team for staying so positive and having a great time playing this sport,” Stackhouse said. “I want to thank the girls for a very memorable and fun season.”
