BUFFALO – A pair of Altoona-Midway Jets were designated for honors when the Kansas 6-Man District 1 All-District selections were announced this week.
Named to the All-District squad were AMHS seniors Kage Beck, and sophomore Chance Carter.
The Altoona-Midway duo was tabbed to the All-District squad despite the fact that the Jets were forced to cancel their final two regular-season games and any postseason appearance due to a lack of available players.
“I was very proud of both Kage and Chance for making All-District,” said AMHS first-year head coach Tod Dutton. “We only were able to play five games, which minimized the amount of stats that we were able to amass compared to the other teams.”
Both AMHS players were selected for multiple accolades of All-District representation. Kage was named first-team defensive back and second-team offense for the flex position, while Carter was a second-team choice on offense at running back and honorable mention on the defensive line.
On offense, Beck was an all-purpose threat for the Jets. The senior rushed the ball 46 times for 390 yards and four touchdowns, and hauled in 11 receptions for 171 yards and two TDs. He also completed three passes for 77 yards and another score. Defensively, Beck led the squad in tackles with 35 solo stops and 14 assists.
Carter, just a sophomore, finished with 158 yards on 39 carries on the shortened season. He racked up 16 solo tackles and 10 assists on defense.
“Kage was our leader all year long,” Dutton continued. “Chance never missed a practice and had a positive attitude in practice and games.
“Both of these young men played several positions during the year and never complained once,” Dutton continued. “It was a challenging year for the Jets due to injuries and lack of numbers, but I was proud of the entire team, and I’m proud of Kage and Chance for making all-district.”
Altoona-Midway finished its abbreviated season with an overall record of 1-4.
