BUFFALO - The Altoona-Midway High School volleyball team hosted a quadrangular event Saturday at Milo Peterson Gymnasium on the AMHS campus.

AMHS was competitive in all three matches, but failed to secure a victory. In the day’s opening battle, Liberty Homeschool Alliance took the measure of the host squad 25-16, 25-15.

Later, the Lady Jets fell to Elk Valley 25-22, 25-14; and came up in the short end in the finale with Chanute Christian Academy, 25-14, 25-12.

Although Altoona-Midway was unable to post a victory in any of their three matches, spectators saw the Lady Jet spikers come close in several sets and fight hard throughout the day.

Those bright spots did not escape the eye of AMHS head coach Sharee Bertrand.

“The girls played hard today, but we came up short,” Bertrand said. “We are still struggling with serving the ball.

“However, we saw some things that we really liked during today’s matches,” she added. “We had some really good digs today, and some freshmen came off the bench and served really well for us.”

Liberty claimed top honors at the quadrangular, posting a perfect 3-0 record on the day. Elk Valley went 2-1 and CCA finished 1-2.

Altoona-Midway is scheduled to hit the road on Tuesday, Sept. 22, as the Lady Jets have a triangular match at Southern Coffey County. Their opponents will be the Lady Titans and Yates Center.
