ALTOONA-MIDWAY MIDDLE SCHOOL BASKETBALL

BARTETT – The Altoona-Midway Middle School boys’ basketball team came up short against the Bartlett Braves here Tuesday evening.

Bartlett pulled away in the second half to post a 32-10 victory. There was no girls’ contest, as Bartlett was unable to field a full squad.

“We actually played better than the score would indicate,” said AMMS coach Craig Null. “The boys were right in the game for the entire first half. We were only down five at the break, and we had missed a few easy shots and gave them a couple of put backs, but overall we played tough defense and for the most part rebounded well.

“But with only five players, when you’re exerting that much energy, you’re bound to get tired. We only scored two points in the second half and got a little sloppy with the ball,” Null added. “But the boys played hard the entire game. I’m proud of them.”

Bartlett led 8-4 after one period and 13-8 at halftime. But the Braves went on a 10-0 run in the third period to put the game out of reach, finishing with the 32-10 victory.

Taj O’Connor was the leading scorer for the Jets with eight points. Chance Carter chipped in two. Zwehlen and Vail scored eight points apiece for Bartlett, while Claibourn added seven.

The AMMS boys fell to 3-5 on the year. Both Altoona-Midway squads are slated to play Thursday at Mound Valley. The girls’ game is set to tip off at 4 p.m.
