ALTOONA-MIDWAY MIDDLE SCHOOL BASKETBALL

EDNA – The Edna Middle School Wildcats proved why they are one of the top boys’ squads in the Mineral Belt League here Thursday afternoon, rolling to a 40-11 victory over the Altoona-Midway Jets.

There was no girls’ game Thursday, as AMMS was unable to field a full squad.

“Edna has a very impressive team,” said Altoona-Midway coach Craig Null. “They had height, athleticism, good anticipation, and hit the boards hard. And they were the best passing team we’ve played this year.

“But that said, I was very proud of the way our kids battled,” Null continued. “Most of our guys worked their butts off from the opening buzzer to the final one. “We actually played pretty good defense, but we got absolutely killed on the boards.”

Edna enjoyed a 40-14 advantage in rebounds.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 17-2 lead at the quarter, increased their lead to 25-6 at halftime, and were up 37-7 after three periods, cruising to the final 40-11 margin.

Taj O’Connor scored six points for AMMS, Kage Beck finished with three and Chance Carter added two.

“Chance Mustain and Blake Nalley didn’t score but they played hard the entire night,” Null mentioned.

Nash and Weil scored 10 points apiece for Edna, while Feeling scored         nine and Ludwig added six.

Altoona-Midway (3-6) is scheduled to wind up regular season play Monday, traveling to Longton to take on Elk Valley Middle School in a doubleheader.
