The Second Annual Top Jet competition was held March 9, 2019. It was a great night and enjoyed by all who attended.
Four teams competed for the Top Jet trophy. The attending community members sampled each dish and cast their votes for their favorites.
The night started with a surprise challenge, “Nailed It”. The teams were given cupcake and a picture of a professionally decorated Cookie Monster cupcake. Each team then had to duplicate the Cookie Monster cupcake with provided ingredients. All of the teams did a great job with the challenge. Cake decorators, Alyssa Relph, Mariah Stackhouse, and Abi Elsesser were the winning team.
Community members were then served the appetizers, dinner, and desserts created by the student chefs. The dishes were sampled and ballots were cast.
Following the dinner, the community members were entertained by a live dessert competition. The teams were given the basic ingredients of an oatmeal crème pie, a banana, and a cup of yogurt. The teams were then given the opportunity to quickly plan and create the dessert using additional ingredients from the classroom. Judging the desserts was a distinguished panel of four judges, who included Jeff Almond, Reyna Almond, Sarah Morton, and Sharon Frankenbury. The winning team was Joseph Leach, Sharie Poeverlein, and Zack Sade.
The winning appetizer voted as the favorite by those in attendance was the Chicken Potstickers prepared by Kylee Wade, Sophia Willard, and Tiffany Kuhn. Favorite Entrée for the evening went to Abi Elsesser, Mariah Stackhouse, and Alyssa Relph with their homemade pizza. In the dessert competition, the favorite was pumpkin cake baked by Dayton Marsh, Caleb Sims and Dustin Reeves. The Top Jet for the night was awarded to Dayton Marsh, Caleb Sims, and Dustin Reeves. It was a fun night, and the students cannot wait for next year.
