LEROY – In a rough and tumble girls’ basketball game, unfortunately, it was Altoona-
Midway High School that tumbled last, falling to Southern Coffey County in a Three Rivers
League contest here Tuesday evening.

The Lady Titans rallied in the second half to post a 39-26 triumph over AMHS.
The game was a solo performance between the two schools on Tuesday. The scheduled
boys’ varsity matchup was postponed when the Southern Coffey County boys were unable
to field a team due to illness.

No make-up date for the boys’ game has been announced.
Both Jet squads will be back home Friday, Feb. 9, to host Marmaton Valley. AMHS will
host Parent's Night at Milo Peterson Gymnasium.

AMHS GIRLS

Southern Coffey County used a strong second half Tuesday to post a 39-26 come-from-
behind victory over Altoona-Midway. “Despite the loss, I am very proud of these girls. They gave it everything they had,” said AMHS head coach Jessica Porter. “This game was brutal. It was extremely rough, especially in the second half, but we kept our turnovers down. We were tested on attitudes, and we were able to maintain them throughout the game even though it was hard.

The girls impressed me with their composure.” Altoona-Midway actually controlled the first half, as the Lady Jets held a 19-16 lead at halftime. But the host Titans turned up the heat in the third quarter, outscoring AMHS 10-0 during the stanza to hold a 26-19 advantage entering the final quarter. Southern Coffey County won the final frame 13-6 to pull away for the 39-26 TRL victory.

“We came out fast, and we were aggressive and pressured them well at first,” Porter
commented. “We had a bad third quarter and just couldn’t ever recover. But overall, I’m
happy with how everyone played.”

Emmalynn Pupanek had another strong game for the Lady Jets, finishing with 17 points, 11
rebounds and five steals. Pupanek poured in 14 points in the opening two stanzas as AMHS
took the lead, but was limited by the Titans to three points after intermission. Aiding Pupanek in the scoring column were Summer Raymond with three points and Ava Hufford, Chantal Morales, and Mika Parsons with two points each.

Ava Tindle pulled down eight rebounds for the Jets, while Hufford and Raymond dished out
five and four assists, respectively.
Karley Ohl and Emily Lundolph both reached double digits offensively for Southern Coffey
County. Ohl finished with 12 points and Lundolph chipped in 11.
The Lady Jets fell to 0-8 in Three Rivers League play and now stand 3-13 in all contests.
