ALTOONA-MIDWAY MIDDLE SCHOOL TRACK
ROSALIA – Three members of the Altoona-Midway Middle School track team came away with medal finishes in individual events at the always tough Flinthills Invitational held here Tuesday.
Emmalynn Pupanek came away with the only gold medal finish for AMMS on the day, and also added a bronze to her growing list of accomplishments. Fellow eighth grader William Stackhouse had a pair of impressive silver medal finishes for the Jets, while Braxton Wittlake topped the seventh-grade results with a notable second-place finish.
Pupanek crossed the finish line first among all competitors in the girls 1600 meter run. She also claimed a bronze medal in the 400 meter run.
Stackhouse cleared the bar at 5-0 to finish second in the high jump (shattering his previous personal best of 4-6). He also had PB while taking runner-up honors in the 200 meters.
“William had an outstanding night,” said AMMS track coach Chary Weilert. “Once again, William has set the pace at practice, working hard every day and being a great role model for the younger kids.”
Wittlake also picked up a silver medal in the seventh grade boys’ shot put event.
“Braxton had a great performance with a toss of nearly 30 feet,” Weilert noted. “Braxton is very coachable. He wants to be the best thrower he can be, so he responds well to instruction. He’s one of those kids that would practice until dark every day, if given the chance.”
Full results from the Flinthills Invitational were not available at press time.
